Request for requests

If you had any mentors can you talk about them? how you found them? what did you ask? did you ask for hel directly?

also interesting how did you find your first work in america. I mean i know you were in Marketing, so when you moved here were you transfered? or did you find work in Marketing. this profession is not typically accessble to non english speaking persons:)

I just found work. I called everyone I knew here - and asked if they will save my husband's life by sponsoring my right to work and getting me out of the house. I led some major projects when working in Russia - so I knew people, had references, had a reputation - it was not just cold calling. But it was really 'calling everyone and being ready for any legal work'. I moved as a 'wife' - no right to work...When they hired me, they found out that I matched all criteria for executive transfer, so visa came faster. I can write about it - but last time I mentioned it I got covered with mud from people claiming I was lying....really ugly. So, I stopped discussing personal history. Completely.

I am really sorry to hear that. I regard it form the perspective of what state one needs to be in, mind and spirit to get ahead. people think that you can't do such things, but I know that one can, and as I said before I don't think that I am executive type, but any move ahead means certain state of mind and spirit. as well as having a mentor and asking for help:)

I agree completely. Calling all these people was the most difficult thing I did in my life. I am a deep introvert - I procrastinate before calling a take-out :)

I remember myself fighting over "you have to call and talk to that person", i.e. I have to initiate the call. This was really hard to start with. Suprisingly, after couple of years I lost fear though still prefer F2F talks. When fear was lost I gained ability to understand really bad accents over phone which I think is the best gain ever. :)
